Rethinking Personal Care
The SSD Connect Alliance is working with Aspex Consulting to review and seek to improve personal care for older Australians. The project is exploring how the current CHSP personal care offerings can be enhanced as we move into Support at Home.
Development
Rapid Literature Scan
We began the project with a review of existing research and publications on personal care service delivery in Australia. You can read a summary of the results in the Rapid Literature Scan PDF.
Consultation
We held extensive discussions with people working in personal care, including home support workers, community support team leaders and unit managers.
Draft enhanced service delivery model
From our thorough research we developed a draft enhanced service delivery model. The enhanced service model aligns with the Department of Health and Aged Care’s Support at Home program and the draft strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards.
The model has 2 focus areas:
Person-centred care as the foundation for all personal care services
Meeting the specific needs of older people who live with dementia and behaviours of concern.
Pilot
We’re currently working with personal care providers to pilot key aspects of the draft enhanced service delivery model. The model will be further refined after the pilot.
Delivery
We’re expecting to release the final enhanced service delivery model in early 2025.
Guidance resources will accompany the model. These resources will support CHSP-funded personal care providers to review and implement the aspects of the model that enhance their current service delivery.
